Mission
The mission of the Institute for Hepatitis and Virus
Research is to use discovery science to find new therapies for viral hepatitis
and liver cancer; to advance its research discoveries through traditional
scholarship and educational opportunities; to nurture biotechnology; and
to promote public health outreach programs to improve the quality of life
for those affected by viral hepatitis.
The Institute for Hepatitis and Virus Research was
established by the Hepatitis
B Foundation.
Natural Products Discovery Institute Signs First Major Deal
The Natural Products Discovery Institute (NPDI) has signed its first major deal to allow qualified researchers to access the formerly private Merck Natural Products Collection that it received as a donation from the company this past summer. Dr. David Kingston, University Distinguished Professor of Chemistry at Virginia Tech, will be the first outside researcher to gain access to this world-class collection of plant natural products. Merck Donates Library to Hepatitis B Foundation’s Research Institute
June 6 – In a public ceremony today, Merck donated its entire “priceless” natural products library, along with an undisclosed grant, to the Institute for Hepatitis and Virus Research, which is the research arm of the Hepatitis B Foundation. The Merck donation is considered to be one to the most diverse and best curated natural products libraries in the world and represents approximately 60% of all known plant genera in the world.
